The University of New Mexico Cancer Research and Treatment Center, also known as UNM Cancer Center, is a clinical care facility that conducts a variety of research studies to diagnose, prevent and treat cancer. It provides patient education classes and support programs for individuals and families. The center offers the Hereditary Cancer Assessment Program, which helps at-risk youths who suffer with the risk of cancer on the basis of family history. It provides psychological counseling and support services to cope with a variety of emotions, including fear, anger, doubt, sadness, stress and confusion. The University of New Mexico Cancer Research and Treatment Center also organizes community awareness sessions on several topics, such as pain management, communication skills, and cancer and intimacy. The center is a part of The University of New Mexico, which is an educational institution.
