Whether you have a lung disease, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or a sleep disorder such as insomnia, narcolepsy, restless legs syndrome or obstructive sleep apnea, a team of providers is here to help you at MountainView Medical Group Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine. Our pulmonary medicine services in Southern New Mexico may include (but are not limited to): Pulmonary disease management / Critical care consultations / Bronchoscopy treatment / Sleep studies / CPAP titration ("calibrate continuous positive airway pressure") / Treatment for sleep disorders, including insomnia, restless leg syndrome, sleep apnea and narcolepsy. Is Sleep Medicine Right for Me? Sleep medicine may be appropriate for patients who have difficulty sleeping at night or staying awake in the daytime, or for those experiencing unusual movements or behaviors during sleep. If you are having difficulty getting the quality or quantity of sleep that you prefer, then you may see your primary care doctor for an evaluation. If your physician thinks your symptoms require more specialized care, then he or she may refer you to a sleep specialist in our Las Cruces facility. Once you have been referred to a sleep specialist, you will receive an evaluation and be asked a series of questions regarding your symptoms. After performing an evaluation and a review of your symptoms and medical history, the sleep specialist will decide if you are a good candidate for a polysomnogram (sleep test), during which you sleep while a technician monitors different body systems and behaviors with electrodes and other attachments.
