Founded in 1925, McKinley Avenue Elementary School offers academic instruction to students in pre-kindergarten through grade five. The school provides classes in math and reading. It offers participation opportunities in several extracurricular activities, such as basketball, soccer, softball and cheerleading. McKinley Avenue Elementary School also provides guidance counseling, food and health care services. The school organizes carnivals and open houses. In addition, it provides special education, extended learning, English Language Acquisition and chorus music programs. McKinley Avenue Elementary School is governed by the Los Angeles Unified School District, which serves more than 655,000 students and employs a staff of over 75,000 people.
