The Four Basic Automotive Window Film Types in use today are: Dyed non-reflective, Dyed/Metalized reflective, Metalized reflective, and Advanced Ceramic Dyed non-reflective films provide glare, fade and thermal control. They contain no metal and are fabricated of colored polyester film. The color is achieved by using a colored polyester base, dying clear polyester or adding dye to the adhesive mounting. Glare, fade and heat control are achieved by absorption of sunlight striking the window with little or no reflectance. High performance dyed metalized reflective films are constructed by laminating a colored film with a metalized film. The reflective metal surface provides improved control of glare, fade and solar heat. Advanced Ceramic films provide the highest level of protection against glare, fading and solar heat gain, and are constructed of single layer metal-coated polyester. Differing light transmission values are achieved by varying the thickness of the metal coating. Different colors are achieved by the use of different metals. The improved durability achieved through the use of metal coating allows warranty against color change for the life of the film.
