General Info

Born in 1943, I have a bachelor's degree and a year of graduate school in sociology which I've never used professionally. I was an Air Force ICBM launch officer in Montana for four years (it kept me out of Vietnam), after which I spent five years in Eugene, Oregon, being a hippy and using my g.i. bill to take English Literature and auto-mechanics courses. I also started working for the Southern Pacific Railroad there as a switchman--a temporary job that went on for 31-and-a-half years with several changes in craft and location. When I retired in January of 2004 I was a locomotive engineer working out of Roseville, California, for the Union Pacific Railroad. I've spent most of my time since then in solitary creative activities—photography, motion graphics, music production, writing on human thought and behavior, and more. While those activities were rewarding, my involvement with other human beings was primarily long-distance, and I began to feel the need for more person-to-person interaction. I had always enjoyed massage, but considered it an indulgence, a luxury. In December of 2013, when I turned 70, I decided that if I was ever going to indulge myself, I’d better start soon, so I started getting a weekly massage. The more massage I received, the more I enjoyed it, and the more I came to see it as a necessity for my emotional and physical wellbeing. I also began to consider how wonderful it would be to give those gifts to others. In the Spring of 2015, I began a three-month course in Swedish massage, and found it far more rewarding than I had imagined. That was just the beginning. I went on to take classes in Deep Tissue Massage, Clinical Deep Tissue, Advanced Swedish, Thai massage, and other modalities. I received certification from CAMTC in September, 2016, #71628.
