We moved to Salem a few months ago, and were so excited that this town had an Indian grocery store to cater to our day-to-day needs. They had a decent selection of items and although the service was inconsistent at times, the store had most of the things that Indian households need. The store owner, whom I met on a couple of occasions, was cordial and helpful, and seemed motivated to help his customers get the things they needed, and even jotted down items that they usually don't keep on their shelves to include in their next shipment.

Unfortunately, over the past few months, this store has really gone DOWNHILL. The counter is now rarely attended to by the owner, and there is usually a young Indian woman behind the counter on most occasions we have visited the store. BEWARE - THIS INDIVIDUAL HAS ABSOLUTELY NO MANNERS WHATSOEVER!!! She IS RARELY HELPFUL when asked to help find a particular item at the store, and makes customers WAIT FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME before helping them with check-out, seemingly WITHOUT ANY REMORSE. On many occasions, she has tried to sell us merchandise WELL PAST THE EXPIRATION DATE and produce that is OBVIOUSLY SPOILED, by offering a discounted price for these items. WHO THE HE## WANTS TO BUY EXPIRED MERCHANDISE AND SPOILED PRODUCE AT A DISCOUNT?? (not me!!). Over the past 2-3 months, her conduct has deteriorated drastically to the point that she is now OPENLY RUDE AND INSULTING TO THE CUSTOMERS. I hope the owner reads this review - this woman needs to learn BASIC HUMAN DECENCY and how to talk to customers, or he risks losing customers and causing her behavior to RUN THE BUSINESS INTO THE GROUND.

On the other hand, sometimes there is an older Punjabi lady who minds the store - this lady is very sweet and genuinely helpful, and although her working knowledge of English is less than average, she will try her best to help you. It's truly a shame that two people from the same country can have SUCH CONTRASTING PERSONALITIES!!!!
