General Info

Walk The Line to SCI Recovery is an exercise based recovery program. Our experienced team works with clients to develop creative individual spinal cord injury recovery programs. Walk The Line to SCI Recovery incorporates the newest information available from emerging research around the globe. Our program is designed to activate muscles and nerves below the level of injury following spinal cord trauma. Because the majority of our exercises are done in weight bearing positions and also in order to maximize benefit to the client, we use two trainers per client during most sessions. Walk The Line to SCI Recovery sessions are 3 hours in duration and clients are encouraged to attend at least 3-4 days per week in order to achieve maximum results. Our clients are goal oriented, empowered and recovery driven.

Our medical director Dr. Hinderer has been a medical rehabilitation professional for over 30 years. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelor-of-science degree in physical therapy in 1978. After working one year at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Allen Park, Michigan as a staff physical therapist he matriculated at the University of Michigan Medical School and graduated in 1983. Dr. Hinderer completed a residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the University of Washington in Seattle in 1986 and pursued a research fellowship at UW for one year following his residency leading to a Master of Science degree in Rehabilitation Medicine. He has held faculty positions at the University of Washington Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, University of Michigan Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan. He has participated at federally funded model systems of care for spinal cord injury at all three of these medical training centers and has been funded by NIH for spinal cord injury research.
